treading lightly

Well i was just feeling a bit jaded with being a tourist in barcelona ,at the end of time away and it seems like ive lsot abit of direction .Ironically people have warned me about metro here and i had money ,credit card that ive been using all the time and passport in a bag hanging in front of me .staying in north barcelona and for the last 2 nights have felt abit unsafe getting metro late and walking thru deserted streets bac k to hostel .So last night left the city just as the fun in ramblas was starting and lo and behold the metro was packed .Standing room ony and i stood by door ,but probablynot as alert as i should have been as walked miles .Looking ack there was a guy standing right next to me and he was standing at an odd angle .In fact i apologised to him for bumping his arm .But he must unziped bag and removed wallet .When i got to the end of trip went to put metro card back and no wallet Panic ,eventually found police station and pretty slow explaining as no english and my spanish is limited ,3 hours later had cancelled credit card ,theylet me use their phone ,completed statement and contacted home ,Luckily passport was there and had the credit card details in diary in another bag .
Another lesson for me -and also t o keep things separately and details re cards passport etc ,Husband sent some money via western union today and the visa people say theyll issue an emergency card ,Have paid for hostel next 2 days ,and flight to paris ,but its pretty expensive here so hope i wont be on rations for the next 6 days i m in europe .at least its sto

i wish id found this before ,when i had heaps to write about .Its been a laid back but restless few days in bath ,uk .After catching the last ,so it seems ,blast of sunshine on the coast of cornwall ,have been in graceful bath visiting relatives .Lots of walking around ,looking into bookshops ,watching the english .And glastonbury festival ,floods and the election on tv at night .
i guess the most interesting thing ,for me anyway ,is that i have walked some paths i walked as a 4 yr old ,born in bath and living here with my family ,walking to meet my grandfather thru rainbow woods ,as a 12 yr old,walking to schools down the hill ,later 23 ,staying here in between travels in the late 60s ,and a few other times since. Each walk has associations with people no longer here ,or with a person different from who i am now .
The city has not changed much ,still the circle of green around the city and the shining stone georgian buildings .A new spa where we used to do swimming lessons at school ,and also where my grandmother once took me to swim before the roman baths were closed .
This isnt about floods and elections ,is it ? Thats what it started out about .
